Overnight
Horse Stabling
Please note that Windrush Farm does not rent horses to the general
public. Riding facilities are strictly for guests that trailer
their own horse(s). Since Windrush is a working horse farm, adequate
facilities are available on premises to board and care for your horse.
Guided horseback tours along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline are also
available. Call ahead to make arrangements prior to your
departure.
World Class Salt Water Fishing
The Eastern Shore of Virginia is a
Mecca for anglers up and down the
East Coast, and for good reason. Outstanding inshore angling
opportunities are available on both the Seaside and Bayside of the
peninsula. Oceanside channels and the Bayside are famous for flounder,
grey trout, cobia, red and black drum, bluefish, whiting, spot and croaker. Offshore angling for dolphin,
marlin, tuna and wahoo is available at nearby Willis Wharf or Wachapreague
on the Oceanside. Oceanside barrier islands have excellent surf
fishing during the spring and fall. Local guides are available for
any type of angling action you desire.
Birding and Nature Watching
Extensive pristine marshlands
cover both the Bay and
Oceanside of the peninsula. These areas contain an amazing array of
bird and wildlife. The fall migration of shore birds down the coast
provides visiting photographers with a unique opportunity. Several
refuges and special observation areas are accessible to motorists.
Guides are also available for nature tours or rent a kayak and venture out
on your own.
Cycling
The area surrounding Windrush
Bed & Breakfast as well as Smith Beach Cottage has hundreds of miles of
secondary and tertiary roads that are perfect for a exciting day of
backcountry cycling. The options for cycling enthusiasts are almost
limitless.
Other Activities
History comes alive in this
area with old courthouses, buildings and records dating back to the
seventeenth century. Boating, kayaking on either the Bay or ocean,
bicycling,
shopping and antiquing are also popular pastimes on the Eastern Shore.
